Mr. Derek Wise
I have been a teacher for 32 years. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Capital University. My Master’s is from OSU in Children’s Literature and Math. I started the first Winterguard in a Christian School in 2015, and am coaching the new Winterguard team here at BCA.
Christian Testimony: I accepted Christ as my Savior when I was seven years old. I knew enough to know that the only way to Heaven was to ask Him to forgive my sins as I knew I was a sinner. God has led me to volunteer summer mission work; youth director and choir director ministries, and also church pianist. I’ve led eight different mission trips all over the US.
Philosophy of Christian Education: Since I have taught in both public and private schools, I know the value of Christian education. Teaching the students not only the basic subject matter that they need to know for a career, but also training them to be able to share their faith with others as they go about their business is key. That is part of the Great Commission.
Personal Life: I have always liked to travel. I have been able to visit 48 of the 50 states, 7 Canadian provinces and have also been to France. I have been to all 88 counties in Ohio, have swum in all 5 Great Lakes, and ridden 751 different roller coasters. I enjoy playing the piano, reading, playing volleyball, bowling, swimming, hiking, cooking, biking, planning parties, and spending time with friends.
My Dad passed away six years ago; my Mom lives with me, and I have a younger brother who lives here in Columbus. Besides growing as a Christian and educator, I hope to visit the last two US states, and have many goals and places to see in the future.
